What is Natural Progesterone?

Progesterone levels are fairly constant in women. Following ovulation estrogen levels begin to rise dramatically; this causes a gap between estrogen and progesterone which helps to aggravate existing PMS symptoms, and causes other symptoms to onset. Sometime in their mid-thirites women become severely deficient in progesterone and with the onset of menoopuase progesterone levels drop to near zero. Estrogen levels also drop, but only by 40% to 60% as much as progesterone levels. This creates in the woman's body what has come to be known as "estrogen dominance." The typical American diet, birth-control pills, and HRT add significantly to this "estrogen dominance," causing an imbalance toxic to the body. Scientific and empirical evidence leave little or no doubt "estrogen dominance" greatly increases the chances of cancer in women.

Natural progesterone offers a world of benefits - It appears to have fewer side effects in many women and it may have more benefit for lipid profile enhancement, osteoporosis prevention, and the treatment of menopausal symptoms, Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), and endometriosis.

Women taking natural progesterone experience less female discomfort, increased vitality, emotional balance, reduced sleep disturbance, and progesterone is often cited as the missing ingredient for enhancing the woman's sexual libido.

Androstenedione, an estrogen precursor, is available in high concentration in the fatty tissue in a woman's body. Cholesterol, which is in high concentration in fatty tissue, provides a great store of estrone. Estrone converts the androstenedione into endogenous estrogen, which is estrogen manufactured from the body tissue rather than estrogen produced by the ovaries. The result is that a constant supply of estrogen augments the estrogen being produced by the ovaries. This excess estrogen is stored in the form of adipose, or fat, which is deposited in the breasts, buttocks and hip areas.
